This week in my Music and Choreography course with Prof. Daniel Roberts, we researched minimalism in music and were asked to create a study around the idea of repetition. This is part of what I came up with:
I was satisfied with it, and Prof. Roberts largely agreed, but he pushed me to dig a little deeper to the musicality by speeding up the tempo. This is what I came up with the following week:
This process reminded me exactly why I came to grad school: to dig deep and push myself beyond what I think I know. I have a tendency to be moderate, even, controlled, clear, sometimes to a fault. Just a simple change in speed dramatically altered my experience and the audience perception of this study.
